After graduating undergrad in 2019, I decided to create an Instagram account cataloging my latest book reviews, book hauls, and recommendations. Two years later, I have grown my following to almost 27k users from across the world.
In addition to my own bookish content, I have expanded to sharing books from independent authors, small businesses, and large publishing houses. I also work with several tour companies to promote smaller authors as well. These tour companies send finished copies to tour “hosts” to promote the book before release day.
I have also included a piece on creating my book-themed YouTube account. The article below highlights the final touches of making the account and the audience testing I completed before posting the final videos.
Hitting 20k followers was a huge achievement that I never thought would become a reality. With growing popularity, I started to gain more confidence as a content creator. When I saw a photo of a hanging bookshelf, I started looking into the company Agustav Furniture. I decided then that I would draft an email asking for a collaboration.
With a quick response, they agreed to collaborate, and we have been working together ever since.
Having a beautifully aesthetic image or video is one way to attract a user to interact with your content, but having strong copywriting adds another layer to entice a user to start or contribute to a conversation. I always love to start my post with a question. What are they reading? Have you read this popular book? What did you think about the book?
Then, I usually go on to describe or talk about what is happening in the post to add more information or opinions on the above content. If, I’m talking about a book, I always throw the synopsis in the caption so the user doesn’t have to leave the app, and they spend more time reading my post.
Lastly, I love to close out my post wishing everyone a happy reading experience.
Platforms are constantly changing the algorithm, but one thing that can stay consistent is the format of the copy. It’s a formula that might seem simple, but effetely gets my information across and my followers always know what to expect from my posts.
I have spent years watching people create content on YouTube. Now it’s my turn.
I create a YouTube channel to talk about my favorite hobby, books. This article showcases the final touches of my project and offers insight into my process of putting the channel together.
I used a camera, tripod, microphone, and iMovie to put together my final videos. I then put on the finishing touches in the YouTuber creator studio.
This project gave me a lot more respect for some of the YouTubers I grew up watching and inspired me to create more content like this in the future.
