Below feature two writing pieces that talk about two very different subjects.
The first article talks about the concept of deep work (it’s pretty cool, I promise), and the second highlights the key elements of book cover design (and yes, coming from a bookseller, it’s okay to judge a book by the cover).
This writing piece focuses on the practice of deep work and how it affected me as a student, avid reader, and completing tasks in everyday life. So, I put together a white paper of all of my thoughts, feelings, and background of deep work and how to use it in everyday life, especially in the workplace.
I completed hours of research looking at common distractions, social media use, and Internet culture. I then looked at deep work to see how the strategy could help me focus on my work and get more work done.
Two years later, I am still using deep work when completing projects, working, reading, or completing everyday tasks.
The cover of the book is literally the face of the story. It is important for the artist to capture the key elements of the book and translate them into a captivating and unique design.
I dive deeper into the current trends, genre influences, typography and provide examples in excellent design.
It is also important to discuss International covers, hardcover vs paperback, anniversary editions, and series design as well.
